From the Driver's Seat

A day in the life of a school bus driver...

As a school bus driver, your day begins before the sun comes up.  You may go out on your route as early as 5:30 AM.

Here are some students, standing at their corner bus stop, waiting for the bus to come.

Many of our district's bus routes go through new neighborhoods with homes under construction.  This can cause a lot of problems for a school bus driver:  Can the bus fit between those parked vehicles?

Red traffic lights can throw a school bus driver off their schedule.

You know you're getting close to the school when you see the flashing yellow light on the 20 m.p.h. School Zone sign.

A check of your mirrors as you approach the school reveals a typical scene: A traffic jam of school buses, day care vans, parents' cars and minivans all waiting to drop off students at the school.

In the afternoon, a reflection in the school windows shows the school buses lined up and waiting to take the students home.

School bus drivers must observe extra safety precautions at railroad crossings.

Can't get the bus through here unless one of those trucks moves!

Even when you're done taking the students home, you still have to fight through evening rush hour traffic to get back to the bus lot.
